We prepaid to go on a Melacca excursion while in Aus. This cultural, Nyonya Heritage Tour was well organised by Legends of the Sea, with an English speaking guide, free water bottle and time to explore Chinatown district ourselves as well as together as a group to visit the museum, other historical sites and sample Malaysian sweets and cakes for afternoon tea.

We flew back to Perth with Tiger Airways Asia, (cheapest fare) and the flight was as good as any other budget carrier. We boarded on time form Changi Budget Terminal, tho we did have to queue with other planes waiting to leave the runway, as torential rain poured on the airport and surrounding area for 15 mins. The service was friendly and attentive, rasonable leg room (newer Airbus 320), clean plane, choice of 3 hot meals as well as usual airline snack food, and we arrived in Perth only 5 mins late! May be it's the luck of the draw on Tiger, however, I don't think I'd fly with them in and around Aus as there's still alot of negative feedback.

We decided to book a 2 hr 15 mins dinner cruise on the Cheng Ho replica junk while at Changi Airport (local calls are free there) and this diesel motorised wooden vessel cruises the harbour just before sunset and then close to Sentosa Is after a hot and cold buffet dinner to view (from a distance) the Songs of the Sea water light and laser show with fireworks.

As part of our accommodation package at the Ibis On Bencoolen, we were given each a day pass for Funvee City Sight Seeing hop-on, hop-off tours on a double decker bus(with airconditioning areas). As the bus was travelling slowly thru traffic, I quickly took this pic of one of the newest buuilding complexes in Singapore.

This new complex of motels, units and resort was only in early construction phase when I was last in Singapore 2 and a half years ago. There is quite alot of construction happening in Singapore at present and it all seems to be happening quickly - the shift workers work around the clock, 24 hrs a day on most sites.

Karaoke nights are held here and tho well organised, the hstess had little personality, introduced everyone participating as a song number and not by their name, and not many people attended. It could have been so much better, so was dissapointing. Most of the songs were Asian with just 4 pages dedicated to choosing popular English language songs.

Both lunch and dinner offered 6 large buffet tables (like this one). Buffet does change a little each day. On this night there was 1 table as a salad bar (good variety) and where you can make your own salads; 1 with assortment of cold meats, cheeses, etc and other cold dishes; 1 with variety of hot western style meals and Asian meals incl some fish or prawns and vegetarian; 1 with Janapnese noodle meals, rice, variety of sushi and sashimi; 1 table of various Indian vegetarian and meat dishes and condiments and 1 dessert table. There was also a roast carvery serving area. Food was plentiful and great!

Good choice of brekkie food and juices were provided along with expresso or filtered coffee. During lunch and dinner the only drinks that were free were: American style lemonade (refreshing and non fizzy), water and iced tea (not too sweet thankfully). You could get beverage packages for reasonable prices but we didn't bother.

The Windjammer Cafe is totally buffet style with a great choice of food and replennished often. At breakfast, you could choose from a variety of Eastern and Western brekkies and have your own special fluffy omelette with fillings of your choice made for you!

We mostly relaxed on this deck undercover, where we had good view of the sea, coast and islands, where we were entertained by a smiling trio playing Asian and other known pop songs sung in English, and where Baz could have the occasional cigarette. There were actually 3 smoking areas on board, as no one is allowed to smoke on balconies adjoinig the cabins that have them.
